Online security questions

Do I need to use a special browser to access the site?
Yes, you will need a browser with special security features to log in to the GE Money site. These include Netscape 6.2 or higher, and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher. These browsers are SSL-compliant and have a "secure mode." When in secure mode, you will see an unbroken key or lock at the bottom of the page.

Am I on a secure site even if the padlock on my browser is not locked?
Yes. The site encrypts your account and other sensitive information everywhere on the site. Occasionally the padlock will not appear locked (symbolizing an encrypted session) because we occasionally make use of browser "frames" to display information. Frames that display general information about the site are not encrypted. However, any frame that displays or requests information about your account, username, password, application or other sensitive information, is encrypted.

What is SSL? What is a "secure session"?
SSL is an abbreviation for Secured Socket Layer. This technology secretly encodes (or encrypts) information as it is sent over the Internet between your computer and GE Money Bank. SSL uses these "secure sessions" to keep your personal information private and confidential.

What should I do when I have finished viewing my account information?
When you are finished using the GE Money Web site, log out before you close or exit your Internet browser (i.e., Internet Explorer, Netscape, AOL). This limits the chance of anyone viewing your confidential account information.

Is it safe to view my account information on a "public" computer?
If you view your account information on a computer that other people also work on, close your Internet browser software before leaving. This limits the chance of anyone viewing your confidential account information.

How can I tell when my information is secure?
The easiest way to tell if your information is secure is to look at the Web address. If it starts with "https" instead of "http," then it’s a secure session. To check if a page is secure, follow these steps:
