Here are some important things to think about before sending your money:

Services in the Receiving Country: You may have to use wire services because there are just not enough financial institutions in the receiving country (particularly in rural communities). Wire services will often send to retailers, travel agencies and exchange services, giving more options for your family or friends to pick up the money.

Total Fees and Charges: Make sure you know about the fees for each part of the transaction. Obtain this in writing and make sure your family member or friend receives a copy so they are aware of the agreed-upon fees and charges.

Exchange Rates: Whenever possible, you should use services that give the money in US dollars in the home country. This will allow your family or friends to keep the best exchange rate. In countries where currency is unstable or in decline, family members may wish to keep a portion in dollars for savings.
