GE Consumer Finance Launches New Mervyns Credit Card; Card features improved rewards program and a new design

STAMFORD, CONN. -- October 6, 2005 -- GE Consumer Finance, the consumer lending unit of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), and Mervyns, a leading promotional neighborhood department store, today announced the launch of the new Mervyns Card for its customers. The new Mervyns Card, which has been redesigned to feature updated branding and the landscapes of California with a look that reflects Mervyns’ West Coast heritage, is available immediately. The new cards are being mailed to more than 3.4 million existing Mervyns cardholders, and are also available when new cardholders open accounts.

When existing Mervyns cardholders receive their new cards they will be able to save right away through a unique offer called "20 for 20," which allows customers to save 20 percent off any 20 items of their choice through November 6 when they use their Mervyns Card. Also, the popular Mervyns Big RewardsSM program is improved, and now awards a 15 percent off all-day savings pass for every purchase of $250 or more. The Mervyns Card also features no annual fee, competitive APRs, online account management, optional account security, advance notice of sales and events, special savings opportunities throughout the year, and receipt-free returns within 90 days of purchase when the card is used.

"We're delighted to offer improved cardholder benefits to Mervyns shoppers," said Margaret Keane, president and CEO of GE Consumer Finance's Retail Consumer Finance unit. "We look forward to helping Mervyns drive sales and enhance customer loyalty through this new and improved program."

"Mervyns customers are very loyal, and to show our appreciation we've created new opportunities for them to get credit for their style and start enjoying more special offers and exclusive cardholder extra savings on their purchases," said Terry McDonald, senior vice president of marketing for Mervyns. "We look forward to working with GE to further evolve the program, and help customers reap even bigger rewards each time they shop with us."

In addition to launching the new cards to 3.4 million existing Mervyns Cardholders, GE Consumer Finance will work with Mervyns to launch an extensive marketing campaign to attract new cardholders. Consumers who are interested in the Mervyns Card can apply online at www.mervyns.com or at any Mervyns store location.
